# Excel and CSV (Smart Matrix)

> Smart Matrix Import takes Excel or CSV UAT workbooks. Map columns, review the cases, then apply them to the project.

Use this when they send a UAT tracker as Excel or CSV: rows of cases with title, steps, expected result, and similar columns.

**1. Open Import**

Project setup **Import tests**, or **Import** in the project. Choose **Smart Matrix Import**.

**2. Upload Excel or CSV**

Use a sheet that is actually a test matrix, not a finance export. Multi-tab workbooks are fine when each tab is still a matrix.

**3. Map columns**

Match source columns to suite, case title, steps, expected outcome, priority, persona, and cycle when those columns exist. Save a mapping if you will import the same layout again.

**4. Review personas, suites, and cycles**

Confirm grouping and names. Fix truncated steps or odd priorities before you apply.

**5. Preview, then apply**

Cases become normal project cases. Then create a cycle and run. You can stop using the spreadsheet for results; the platform stores them.

Word, PDF, or a mixed folder in the same pile? Use [Unified Smart Import](https://docs.simpleuat.com/imports/smart-import.md) instead.
